Today marks the release of the Antonov An-225 Mriya for Microsoft Flight Simulator, thanks to a partnership between iniBuilds and Microsoft. This impressive aircraft was the largest in the world until its destruction during the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but it has been brought back to life in the virtual skies of MSFS!

The release date of the An-225 on this exact day, February 27th, is no coincidence. It’s been exactly one year since its destruction, and it’s a date that the MSFS team wanted to mark with the revival of this behemoth of aviation in the simulator.

The Antonov An-225 Mriya is a legendary aircraft that has captured the imagination of aviation enthusiasts around the world. With a wingspan of 88.4 meters and a length of 84 meters, the An-225 was the world’s largest aircraft, capable of carrying an incredible 640 tons of cargo.

The An-225 was originally designed and built by the Soviet Union in the 1980s as a strategic airlift cargo plane. It was specifically designed to transport the Buran space shuttle, a rival to the US space shuttle program. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the An-225 was left without a purpose, and it sat idle for several years.

It wasn’t until the late 1990s that the An-225 was brought back into service by the Ukrainian cargo airline Antonov Airlines. Since then, the An-225 has been used to transport a wide range of cargo, including generators, oil drilling equipment, trains, and much more.

The An-225 has become something of a legend in the aviation world, not only for its size and cargo capacity but also for its unique design. The plane has six engines and a twin-tail design, which helps to distribute the weight of the cargo evenly. Its enormous size and power make it an impressive sight to behold, and it’s no wonder that aviation enthusiasts used to flock to airports around the world to catch a glimpse of this incredible machine.

In addition to its cargo-carrying capabilities, the An-225 has also been used for humanitarian missions, including delivering aid to earthquake victims in Pakistan and carrying medical supplies to the Ebola-stricken countries in West Africa.

The Antonov An-225 Mriya is a truly remarkable aircraft that has captured the hearts and minds of aviation enthusiasts around the world. Its massive size and cargo capacity, combined with its unique design and capabilities, make it one of the most impressive aircraft ever built.

The An-225 for Microsoft Flight Simulator hopes to bring this legacy into the simulator while helping the rebuilding efforts of the real aircraft. It costs $19,99, and all sales will go towards rebuilding efforts to bring the An-225 back to life in the real world.
